How to use Picsart remove background

On the web, the tool page at picsart.com/background-remover takes an image by browsing, drag and drop, pasting or a URL. Inside the Picsart web editor, Picsart's help center gives three steps:

1. Upload the image to the editor.
2. Select it on the canvas.
3. Click Remove Background in the top toolbar; the AI clears the background and leaves it transparent.

In the iPhone and Android apps, you tap the plus sign to add a photo and then the Remove BG icon on the bottom toolbar. Picsart says its paid benefits also work in its Microsoft Store app. Downloaded as PNG, the result keeps the transparent background.

Is the Picsart background remover free?

The page title says "Free Background Remover", and creating a Picsart account costs nothing. Beyond that, Picsart does not publish how many free removals you get, the size of free downloads or whether they carry a watermark. An older answer on the tool page said the background remover could be tried free for 7 days through a subscription trial; on 18 September 2026 that answer was no longer shown on the page.

For the best results, Picsart's help center recommends JPG or PNG images at least 1024 pixels on the shortest side.

Commercial use and your uploads

Picsart's help center answers the question directly: its tools, including the cutout tools, can be used to create images for commercial use, with the same answer for free and paid accounts. The restrictions apply to Picsart's own content, such as stickers and templates, which is licensed for personal, non-commercial use unless marked for commercial use.

One clause is worth reading before uploading client photos. Your photos stay yours, Picsart says, yet uploading grants it a broad license to use it "for any purpose in connection with the Service and our business", according to its terms, last updated 30 June 2023.

Picsart prices in the US

These are the prices Picsart's pricing page showed in US dollars on 18 September 2026. The Ultra card now opens on a 2,500-credit tier at $60 a month billed yearly, and higher tiers go up to 10,000 credits and beyond. The credit table lists Remove Background as free on paid plans.

A few terms are inconsistent on Picsart's own pages. The yearly toggle promises savings of up to 30% while the FAQ says up to 60%, and the terms say all payments are nonrefundable while the FAQ links to a refund request form. Picsart says most plans include a free trial depending on account history, and some trials need payment details and renew automatically.

Backgrounds, batch and API

After a removal, Picsart can leave the image transparent or add a solid color, a stock photo or an AI-generated scene described in a prompt. It has separate pages for changing a background color and blurring a background, a batch editor on paid plans, and an API that charges 5 credits per background removal.

Picsart compared with CutoutBG AI

The difference is scope. Picsart is a full editor for social graphics, stickers and effects; CutoutBG AI only removes or replaces backgrounds, and says up front how many free images you get and at what size.

Verdict

Choose Picsart if the cutout is one step in a bigger edit, such as a social post with text, stickers and effects, and you are happy on a paid plan, where background removal is included. If you only need clean cutouts and want to know the free limits before you start, a single-purpose tool is easier to plan around.
