How to cut out an image in three steps
Upload the photo

What an image cutout is
An image cutout is the subject on its own, with every pixel around it made fully transparent. Designers used to build one with a pen tool or a lasso, clicking along the outline point by point. An image cut out tool like this one works the outline out for you.
Edges are not simply on or off. Where the subject meets the background, the result keeps partly transparent pixels, and that is what lets hair, fur and softly focused edges blend into whatever you put behind them later. It is also why a cutout image looks natural on a new color instead of showing a hard, stepped rim.
What the AI keeps, and what it cannot choose for you
The tool keeps what it reads as the foreground and removes the rest. That works best when the photo has one clear subject, and there are a few limits worth knowing before you upload:
- Several subjects usually stay together. A group photo or a row of products tends to come back with all of them in the cutout.
- You cannot pick one object. There is no brush, lasso or click-to-select, so if you want a single item from a busy photo, crop around it before uploading.
- Hidden parts are not redrawn. If a chair covers part of an arm, the arm is cut out exactly as it appears; nothing missing is filled in.
- The size does not change. The cutout is as large as the upload, so nothing is enlarged along the way.
Photo cut out tips for cleaner edges
The source photo decides most of the result, whether you cut out photo portraits, pets or products. A few habits make the outline easier to find:
- Contrast between subject and background. A dark jacket against a dark wall gives the model far less to go on than the same jacket in front of a pale one.
- Sharp focus at the edges. Motion blur and heavy compression smear the outline, and the cutout inherits the smear.
- The biggest file you have. A picture cut out from a 400-pixel thumbnail stays 400 pixels wide, so start from the original, which can be as large as 36 megapixels.
- The right image type. Photo suits camera shots; Anime / illustration suits drawings, thin-line logos and scanned handwriting.
